Vr3 Wireless Backup Camera Review
Have you been looking for the convenience
of a rearview camera without the high cost of a luxury vehicle. There is an
affordable alternative that’s not only inexpensive but also simple to install. The VR3 Wireless Backup Camera is a wireless back up camera system from Virtual
Reality Labs.
Installation of the VR3 backup
camera system is a relatively simple process. The system actually has two sets
of wires: one to connect the backup camera to the vehicle's reverse-light circuit
and one to connect the monitor mounted on the dash and one to the vehicles 12V power
supply. The camera mounts either above or below the license plate using the
existing screws or bolts.
Design
Once the back up camera itself is mounted to the license plate it is noticeable
but not so much that you would object. The backup camera monitor mounts in a
separate holder base on top of the car's dashboard. The base itself is attached
by Velcro to the dash. When the monitor and its holder are removed, the Velcro-covered
base will remain on the dash.
The monitor and mounting and wiring
adds a negligible amount of additional clutter to the dashboard area. The
benefits definitely outweigh the negatives in my opinion.
The V3 backup monitor features nine
separate brightness settings for daytime and nighttime adjustments depending on
your preferences. You have 4 different viewing choices by using the image
orientation control consisting of: normal, which shows a view with the same
orientation as that seen in the rearview mirror; reverse, which shows a true,
rear-looking view as if you turned your head around to look; inverted, which
flips the normal view 180 degrees on its horizontal axis; and inverted reverse,
which flips the reverse view upside down.
Performance
The LCD color monitor allows for a
decent view of what's behind you. The camera when mounted to the license plate has
a 110-degree horizontal viewing angle and an 80-degree vertical viewing angle.
This wide field of vision provides a good view of the rear of the vehicle.
The depth perception of the VR3
backup camera takes some getting used to. Images appear to be further away than
they actually are until you get within 3 feet or so and then it looks as though
you are right on top of them. In no time at all you will figure out how to
judge distances comfortably.
Overall, the VR3 Backup Camera
system is a useful device for general rear visibility. The relatively low cost
coupled with the ease of installation of the device is a no brainer for anyone
needing better rear vision from their vehicle.
